About Of Dr Murali Reddy
I’m Murali Reddy, a psychiatrist working in Canberra since the mid-2000s. I finished my basic medical degree in 2002, did my psychiatry specials in India (DPM and DNB), then came here, finished the AMC exams and got my FRANZCP in 2006.
I’ve been in the game a long time now—more than 23 years all up. Most weeks you’ll find me at my rooms in Lyneham (North Lyneham Professional Centre) or Gungahlin, and I still do sessions at Calvary Bruce Private and some public clinics with ACT Health.
I look after adults with the usual stuff: depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, PTSD, and a fair bit of addiction work. I’m straight-up with people—I’ll use medication if it’s needed, but I’m just as happy doing proper talking therapy or sorting out sleep, exercise and routine first. Whatever actually works for that person. I speak Hindi and Telugu as well as English, so I get plenty of referrals from families who prefer to talk in their own language.
I teach medical students and psych registrars at ANU, run GP education nights, and supervise trainees. Keeps me on my toes and stops me getting stuck in my ways.
At the end of the day I just try to listen properly, cut through the noise, and give people a clear plan they can actually follow. Most people who walk in feeling wrecked walk out feeling there’s a realistic way forward.
