I’m Mark Fletcher, a GP here in Jerrabomberra. I’ve been practising medicine for about 14 years now and still get a real kick out of helping people sort out whatever’s bothering them.
Before I went to med school, I did a forensic biology degree back in 2005 – basically a science nerd phase that taught me how to think carefully and dig for answers. That led me to the Australian National University, where I finished my MBBS in 2011. My hospital years were spent in Albury/Wodonga, mostly in emergency and anaesthetics – fast-paced stuff that taught me to stay calm when things get hectic.
I came back to the Canberra area in 2013 and joined Jerrabomberra Medical Centre. Day-to-day, I see everything from kids with ear infections to older folks managing diabetes or heart issues. I particularly enjoy men’s health check-ups, urgent care, and anything that needs quick thinking. I’m a big believer in listening first, explaining clearly, and only doing tests or treatments that actually make sense for the person in front of me.
I’m registered with AHPRA and keep up with the usual courses, but the best part of the job is still the conversations – working out what’s really going on and coming up with a plan together.
When I’m not at the clinic, I’m usually with my family, kicking a footy around or walking the dog. I love living here – it’s close-knit and the patients feel more like neighbours than numbers on a list.
If you’re after straightforward, no-fuss care, pop in and say hello. I’m usually around weekdays and some weekends too.
