I’m Dr Grace Vizcarra, a paediatrician here in Blacktown. For years I’ve looked after babies, toddlers, schoolkids and teenagers right through to when they finish high school. My clinic is Paediatrics@Blacktown, tucked away in Suite 30 at Kildare Court, 15-17 Kildare Road, Blacktown 2148. If you’re coming from Lalor Park, Seven Hills, Kings Park or anywhere around western Sydney, it’s usually an easy drive or bus ride.When your little one walks through my door, I want them to feel safe rather than scared. The waiting room has bright pictures, books and toys, and I try to keep the whole visit as calm as possible. I speak English and Tagalog fluently, so if Filipino is your family’s first language, we can chat comfortably in whichever you prefer.I love the everyday stuff just as much as the tricky cases: the 6-week check where we celebrate those first smiles, the vaccination visits (yes, I know needles aren’t fun, but I’ll always be honest and quick), the times when your child is burning hot at 2 a.m. and you need someone to listen and help straight away, or the quiet worry when your toddler still isn’t saying many words. I look at the whole child, their growth, their learning, their feelings, and how everything fits together at home and at preschool or school.I work with a small, lovely team here. We share notes, talk about our patients (always confidentially, of course), and make sure nothing slips through the cracks. If your child needs to see a speech therapist, allergist or anyone else, I’ll coordinate so you’re not left juggling appointments on your own. I also keep learning; every year there are new guidelines, new research, new ways to help kids breathe easier or grow stronger, and I make it my job to stay on top of them.Most of all, I listen. Parents know their children better than anyone. When you tell me your baby only settles if she’s held a certain way, or your eight-year-old has started wetting the bed again after starting a new school, I take that seriously.
